About Phnom Penh Noodle Shack

The oldest Cambodian restaurant in America. In the early 1980s, our parents made a transformative decision to revitalize a dilapidated "restaurant" and turn it into a successful establishment. Their vision was to create a welcoming atmosphere and serve simple, yet delicious Cambodian dishes for the local community to savor. Initially, the establishment was quite modest, earning it the nickname "The Shack." With only five tables available, the space was cramped and movement was challenging. However, word began to spread, and by the late 1980s, this restaurant had gained significant recognition within the Asian community.

Google also lists it under breakfast restaurant, brunch restaurant, noodle shop, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Long Beach, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 7 am–3 pm. It is closed on Monday. Having spent time in Cambodia I can not begin to tell you the excitement I felt when A, I found out there was a Little Cambodia when I was visiting Long Beach, and B, that a place like Phnom Penh Noodle Shack exists. The food was stellar. I haven't had noodles this good since I was at Psar Chas in Phnom Penh last year. We had the RP Bowl, Mo's Special plus an order of Chinese Broccoli, and Nohm Hing. Left very full and very happy. We have one more week in the area so we plan on coming back. αž’αžšαž‚αž»αžŽ!

Very authentic Cambodian/Chinese type soup noodle house. Just very savory and tasty. Excellent when craving for good noodle soup. Although I ordered the the middle dry and have the soup on the side. Kind of a hectic atmosphere because they're very busy. Probably why the service is a little bit off. You kind of have to chase after the servers for anything. This is a very old place, no parking. You just have to find parking on the street, which can be challenging. This is a place where you come to eat, then go. But good stuffs.

It was our first time here and we ordered 1 special dry and special with broth along with the donut. The broth was tasty and light and the dry dish was seasoned quite bland, however, the manager has informed us that many Americans don’t like it seasoned heavy and gave us more sauce. With the additional sauce, the dish was definitely much more flavorful. Must get the donut because it was hot, crunchy, and addictive. Very tasty and portion was huge.

Stopped in Cali for a long weekend and had to try these noodles since we were in Cambodia town. Dear lord were these noodles amazing!! My wife loved her bowl too. The lime soda drink hit the spot on a hot day also. Since we've been back home we wish we could get the same style and flavor so I hope they would do a place on the East coast in the future.

PhnomPenh Noodle Shack 🫡🏻🫡🏻is hands down the best noodle spot I’ve had in America! If you’re a fan of bold flavors, hearty portions, and comforting soup dishes β€” this place is a must-visit. The bowls are huge β€” seriously generous portions loaded with noodles, a variety of meats, and rich, flavorful soup. Every bite is satisfying and packed with authentic Cambodian flavor. It’s the kind of meal that leaves you full, happy, and already thinking about your next visit. Beyond the food, the vibe is awesome β€” casual, welcoming, and full of character. There’s great background music, the energy is relaxed, and the staff are super friendly and helpful, adding to the overall experience. It’s also very cost-effective β€” you get incredible quality and a massive portion for a very fair price. It’s rare to find a place that offers such great value while still delivering top-tier flavor and service.
